Now more than ever, mental and behavioral health care for kids is needed in our community. Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health is looking to meet the growing demands by hiring a full time Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant for the Childcare Resource and Referral Agency.

The position provides focused ECMH Programmatic Consultation to the Ohio Childcare Resource and Referral Association in Service Delivery Area 4, including Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit and Trumbull Counties.


The Ohio Childcare Resource and Referral Association members are seven private non-profit R&R agencies serving as 12 Service Delivery Areas (SDA) through Ohio’s 88 counties. The R&R’s work with public and private agencies and they assign the Regional Training Center within their SDA to collaborate on workforce recruitment and retention strategies increasing the capacity of the children’s services workforce. The ECMH Consultant will collaborate with CCR&R SDA 4 staff to support staff wellness and identify opportunities to support child social-emotional development, facilitate a positive school/workplace climate and facilitate positive family engagement through CCR&R activities, routines, & interactions with ODJFS childcare programs, leaders, staff, families, children, community partners and more. The position requires in-person meetings with CCR&R staff, agency partners, as well as travel to all counties served by the assigned CCR&R when requested. Additional travel to Columbus for training will be required often.

Job Description/Duties

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains a professional working relationship with partners in the community.
  • Provides programmatic consultation to CCR&R SDA 4 as part of the Ohio ECMH Expansion Program.
  • Designs and implements programmatic consultation plans in conjunction with CCR&R staff.
  • Provides training to early childhood staff.
  • Participates in consultation-based projects.
  • Collects and enters data as required by ODMHAS into prescribed data systems.
  • Participates in Ohio Approved training on early childhood specific topics for ECMH credential.
  • Attends as scheduled and participates in supervision, team meetings, professional development, First Aid/CPR training and serves on agency committees, as appropriate.
  • Participates in reflective supervision, including being on time and coming prepared to discuss experiences or dilemmas, maintaining an openness to feedback, developing awareness of internal response to work, exploring impact of internal beliefs on the work, allowing support, and reflecting on the supervision experience to enhance professional practice and personal growth.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mental health related field; Licensure in mental health
  • Education and experience with working with families & working across systems of care (e.g. Medication Assisted Treatment, addiction, medical facilities/WIC, Early Intervention, Help Me Grow, Head Start, childcare settings).
  • Expectation to work towards being an ECH Consultant through the Ohio Professional Development Network (OPDN) Registry.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task on multiple initiatives in parallel, & relate to a variety of professionals & caregivers.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural diversity of the population served, implicit bias & its impact on care.
  • Commitment to the promotion of social justice and ability to promote diversity, equity & inclusion within programs.
  • Ability to work independently and align work with team & relate to a variety of professionals and parents of young children.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters’ degree in a mental health field, Independent Licensure in mental health
  • Education/experience working with children birth to age 5 and their families
  • Experience in providing training to Early Care and education staff and/or medical personnel. Eligible for ECMH credentials through the State of Ohio

We have positions available at all our four locations in Stark County including downtown Canton, Belden Village, Alliance and Plain Township.

Location: This Position Is At The Canton/Shipley Office.

Hours: Full-time. Some evening hours and/or Saturday hours may be required.

Salary Range/Compensation: Based upon licensure status, education, and experience.
