DR. KARITA NUSSBAUM

Dr. Karita Nussbaum, who worked for Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health (C&A) 20 years earlier, returns to C&A after completing a practicum at the Shipley facility for her master’s degree. She earned a master’s in social work from The University of Akron and a doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Walden University.


Since she began her professional career, she’s lived in Colorado, Indiana, Oklahoma, Vermont and Pennsylvania working with a variety of populations in a variety of settings.

Dr. Nussbaum’s focus has always been with children, particularly those with more complicated concerns. She has been a residential child care worker and probation officer before finally settling on therapy. Dr. Nussbaum began working with substance using adults in 2006 and has continued developing this specialty.


Dr. Nussbaum is a licensed independent social worker (LISW-S) and licensed independent chemical dependency counselor (LICDC) in the state of Ohio. During the school year, she teaches an early morning Introduction to Psychology class for the University of Akron proclaiming that, “psychology is everywhere!” The most gratifying part of her job is to watch people grow and change to be the people they were created to be.
