Andrew Burwell started his career in C&A’s Trauma-Informed Day Treatment school teaching students in grades 5 through 9, where he teaches middle school students all subjects – English, math, science and social studies. Beginning with the 2024-25 school year, Burwell will be the principal and program manager for the Trauma-Informed Day Treatment Program.
“I chose to pursue a degree in education so that I could help as many students as I could to succeed and reach their goals in life,” said Burwell, who grew up in Canton, graduated from GlenOak High School and continued his education at Kent State University-Stark Campus.
Burwell recently completed his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Mount Union. He explains why he chose to pursue a degree to become a principal.
“I wanted to become a principal so I could help students and staff continue to develop and reach their goals,” he said. “My overall mission in education is to ensure that everyone involved in the process is heard and able to improve in their own way to attain the end results that we all agree are appropriate. Individualization is the key to a successful education, and it is the responsibility of everyone to work collaboratively so that we all enjoy what we do and reach the intended outcomes we desire.”
Burwell explains why he chose to work at C&A. “I want to help students that are struggling with trauma as well as help them understand how to use appropriate coping skills/tools to reach their goals. My overall mission while working at C&A is to ensure that we are making a genuine and measurable impact on students so that they can reach their goals and make decisions that define who they are.”
